Jan Thiel Wildlife Conservation Area

Wildlife in Curacao is at great risk, now that the government wants to change the area status around Jan Thiel, from Wildlife Preservation Area, to Tourism Development Area.

The land in question borders one of Curacao's largest salt plains, where flamingos have been living in harmony along with over 80 other bird species.

Exploitation of this area could have devastating results for Curacao's wildlife, nature, and economy. As Eco-tourism keeps playing a more important role all over the world; destinations that are overdeveloped and have governments that show no respect for nature, are quickly discarded as destinations by visitors.

Therefore, a government that claims to have the people's best interest at heart should also know that not all development is advancement, especially those that destroy protected wildlife areas.
