The Palm Beach County School Board is thinking of changing the times for high schools and middle schools in the PBC area in the second semester of the 2004-2005 school year. High schools will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 4:20 PM. Middle schools will start at 7:30 AM and end at 2:05 PM. We think those times are extremely hard to deal with. What about homework? After school programs? Sports practice? Some high school students might not even get home until 6 or 7 at night! Also, many high school students would like to have part time jobs in the afternoons, and this would not be possible if we were not let out of school until 4:20. Students with doctors/orthodontists appointments would have to leave class early a lot more as well, since most offices close earlier in the day. Currently, high schools begin at 7:30 AM and ends at 2:50 PM. Middle schools begin at 9:00 AM and end at 3:30 PM. These times are flexible and fair. This way, everyone will have most of the afternoon free for other activities.
