Keep Our Airline Movies Safe From Parents

We demand that the United States Congress completely disregard the online petition entitled Keep Our Children Safe which calls for Congress to create legislation to ban certain films from being shown on airplanes. We feel strongly that this amounts to censorship and represents yet another attempt by parents to pass the responsibility of rearing their children on to government, businesses and the general public.

We believe that airlines should continue to have final discretion as to which films they choose to show on their flights and any intervention by Government would be a frivolous waste of time and taxpayers money. Parents should accept complete responsibility for ensuring their children are kept as entertained and calm as possible on flights. Most airlines publish their film schedules on their websites and parents should, therefore, make an effort to inform themselves of these schedules and plan their trip and flight provider accordingly. If parents are concerned about their children being forced to watch certain films on large, drop-down screens, they should contact the airline to check whether these screens are in use on the flight they wish to take.

The in-flight film system is often the only remedy many fliers have to distract themselves from the noise and disruption of small children on flights and these beleaguered fliers should not have their cinematic choices limited by the very sources of their discomfort.

Our concern is ALSO loud and needs to be heard. Congress should send a clear message that the job of parenting small children lies soley with the PARENTS and is not the provenance of Government.
