[[email protected] - Tue Dec 26 04:44:19 2006]:
A friend of ours passed away a while ago, but we have continued to use
her wall, tag her in photos and notes, and invite her to groups. Will
her Facebook account every get deleted due to inactivity? If so, is
there any way to prevent that?
---------------------
Hey Subah,
What is your friends name. We have a special policy for deceased users.
Thanks for contacting Facebook,

Where can I find more info about that policy?
-----------------
Hey Subah,
We do not have the policy listed anywhere that you can read it.
Basically, we take a deceased users account and it remains up for 30
days. The account becomes locked so no one can access it but users are
still able to post on the wall and tag pictures, and write messages.
After the 30 days are up the profile will, unfortunately, have to be
taken down. We are very sorry for your loss. Please let me know if you
have any questions about our policy or anything else.
Thanks for contacting Facebook,

Hey Chuck,
So you are going to delete her account? But that beats the purpose of my inquiry. I was hoping that it would remain there. It's serving as some sort of way to communicate with her, believe it or not. And if you look at her wall, you would see that most her friends still continue to write on it. Is it possible to leave the account up? Please further consider the matter at hand. We all want her account to remain on Facebook.

Hey Subah,
I'm very sorry for your loss. However, we have to remove the accounts
after 30 days. We cannot leave profiles up if the creator is not around
to monitor the account.
I'm very sorry about this.

Dear Sir,
The account has been inactive for four months now, and had I not feared that it would get deleted due to inactivity, I would have not inquired. And to see that my inquiry is going to cause the removal of her account is very disappointing. I am sure one additional account does not affect your servers. Please understand where I am coming from. Furthermore, the reply to my initial inquiry mentioned something about a 'special policy' and asked for my friend's name. I was not informed of the policy beforehand nor is it anywhere available for me to read. I do not mean to offend anyone, but right now it feels like I was "tricked" into giving her name.
Her mother has her account password, but has not accessed it out of respect for the girl's privacy. If logging on to the account will allow it to remain on Facebook, we will happily arrange for it to be accessed occasionally.
Please reconsider the matter.

Hey Subah,
I'm very sorry, but the account will have to be removed. Once we learn
of a situation where the account owner can no longer access the
account, no matter the reason, we remove the account from the site.
I'm really sorry that this was not made clear to you initially, and I'm
really sorry that this is not the answer you were hoping for.
Thanks for contacting Facebook,

We can arrange for the account to be accessed and maintained if that is the problem. Please make an exception or imagine that I never inquired. I don't see why the account HAS to be deleted.

Hey Subah,
I'm sorry Subah, but the account will be taken down. I know this is
really hard, and I hate to deliver such sad news. But that's the way it
has to be.
