We are writing this petition to express our deep concerns about the disputes between Catholic Church (Archdiocese of Hanoi & the Redemptorists) and the Government of Vietnam over properties at Hanoi and Thai Ha. The chain of events started since January of 2008, and currently erupted to where freedom and basic human rights of peaceful Christians have been violated at the disputed sites.
We the undersigned, respectfully urge the UN, US government, WTO and ASEAN pact to do everything possible:
to ensure that the regime in Hanoi desists from all sorts of violent repression to the protestors;
to assist Vietnam in seriously searching for negotiated settlements regarding the confiscated Church property that is at the root of the dispute;
to pressure Vietnam to respect its own laws and international laws that it has signed by taking immediate actions to prevent further religious and human rights violations against Christians and their Church.
For years, people of faith in Vietnam have suffered and persecuted under Hanois repressive and brutal rules. Since joining the WTO, ASEAN and UN, the Vietnamese government have not live up to their trust and honor. Their latest actions contradicted the principles of law and justices.
We appeal to the World Body and the US government to intervene and help by taking actions immediately to prevent a potential bloodshed in Hanoi and Thai Ha. Definitely, your actions and words count because you represent democracy and freedom.
Please accept our sincere wish for good health and happiness to you, and your family.
