Absinthe, a wonderful and colorful drink also named the Green Fairy. This drink is famous for having Anis or licorice taste and is steeped in a rich and colorful history. Absinthe was banned in France in 1915 and in America in 1912. In many European countries Absinthe is once again available to be consumed by the public. Absinthe was banned in many countries because it was considered to be the "downfall of society". This drink is supposedly what made Van Gogh cut off his ear and send it to a prostitute. Many have claimed that an ingredient called Wormwood or Artemisia Absinthium can cause harm because it contains the chemical Thurjon. Thurjon is similar to THC and may cause reactions such as seizures, abdominal cramps, vomiting, drooling (oh how embarrassing), and oh yeah death. This is what the US Food and Drug administration claims anyways. The whole point of my rant is that I believe that Wormwood being deadly or even very harmful is Bunk. When you have a drink that can be anywhere from 70\% to 80\% alcohol (140-160 proof) and has been know to be at it's highest 180 proof, you are bound to hallucinate, get sick, and maybe even die. I believe that Absinthe when drank responsibly can be very safe. If Everclear is legal at 190 proof (which can kill you or make you blind) then why not absinthe? So please to all those absinthe lovers, drinkers, non-drinkers, and those who love to try new things (generally everyone) sign my petition to make absinthe legal in this country for the first time since 1912!
