As we all know, in 1994, The bestselling book by Anne Rice, Interview With the Vampire, was released as a film. Interview With the Vampire is the first of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, and they have continued on for decades. The movie pleased not only audiences, but pleased also the fans of Anne Rice and her Books, such as myself. "Interview" was the 11th highest grossing film of 1994, and made over 105 million dollars in the U.S. alone. When I heard that Queen of the Damned had gone into production, I was excited to see if it would live up to the book. I was also curious to know if Rice would be writing the screenplay for the next film as she did in "Interview." It was odd to me that The Vampire Lestat, book two of the vampire chronicles, was skipped, and that the third, Queen of the Damned, would follow. The thought of Aaliyah playing Akasha was also exciting and I believed she could make a good Akasha, however, many things came to disappoiont when the Film was released. Firstly, the screenplay was not written by Anne Rice. The film actually combined both The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, minus any bit of history of any character possible. Those who have seen the movie know of the many mishaps within it. The characters were changed, actors were not the best choices in terms of age and appearance. Akasha was narrowed down to a twenty minute part, and for a Vampire who was the first to be made, she had very little strength or greatness that Akasha had in the books. I am not the only one to think that the Movie did neither books justice, especially because it was a follow up to the greatly successful "Interview" and this petition will prove it. I would like The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned to be made correctly, with Anne Rice as the screenwriter if she will grace us all with her talent, decent producers, a director who cares about what the film will be to its fans, and a cast that does the characters justice. So please, sign this petition. I should also note that I mean no offense to Aaliyah, and would wish her to reprise the role that she should have played. I will do all I can to contact anyone and everyone who can make this happen, and if you'd like to know more about the box office results you can go to "http://movies.go.com/boxoffice/1994.html". If you leave your email and a request to contact me, I will contact you. So, Thanks for reading! Any help you can give me in this matter will be greatly appreciated, I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!
