Dear Mr. Prime Minister,
We would like to express our concern about the lyrics in our national anthem. We find the lyrics suggest that women cannot be good citizens. The lyrics say:
"True patriot love, in all thy SONS command"
In our opinion, the message given is that women are second class to men. We suggest that the lyrics be changed to:
"True patriot love, in all of US command"
Canada should take up the challenge to remove the sexist language from our national anthem. It is time to recognize the change in the status of females in modern society.
