We, the undersigned, pledge that we will not buy or consume any coffee that has not been certified fair trade by the Fair Trade Association.
The reason for this is that we are disgusted with the way the coffee industry operates and the harm it has done to poor coffee growers in low-income countries.
However, fair trade coffee is helping farmers by paying them a fair price and also aiding their communities.
If Africa earned 1\% more through trade, it would benefit 5 times as much as it currently does from aid (source: Black Gold, a documentary about coffee).
