On April 14, 2014 more than 200 Nigerian teenage girls attending an all-girls school in the town of Chibok, were abducted by a terrorist group known as Boko Haram. A man claiming to be the leader of this militant group, that translates to " western education is a sin", has recently claimed responsibility for these atrocities in a video announcing he will sell the girls in a "human market". The Nigerian government has not been able to locate or safely return the girls to their families and has publicly expressed the need for international assistance.
We are asking the Canadian government to do everything in its power to help Nigerian authorities and other international aid groups in safely locating and returning these girls back to their families.
Canadians must take an immediate stand against these terrifying violations of human rights. We urge our government to take immediate action.
Sincerely,
Dr. Helen Mavromichalis
