NO RODEO IN DUNEDIN

Dunedin, New Zealand is set to host a rodeo in less than one month's time.
Rodeos are cruel and involve pain, stress and trauma for the animals involved, and risk injuring them. They are internationally condemned – banned in numerous European nations and opposed by New Zealand’s own SPCA and SAFE.
Forcing animals to perform for human entertainment is exploitative, inhumane and unethical. With legislation like the Animal Welfare Act in place, New Zealand should be moving toward respectful treatment of animals. Instead, rodeo animals are subjected to coercion, force, stress, pain and sometimes injury. We should certainly not be teaching children that treating animals in this manner is acceptable or fun.The Animal Welfare Act calls for animals to be "physically handled in a manner which minimises the likelihood of unreasonable or unnecessary pain or distress" (Section 4). We believe that rodeos fly in the face of this rule, and we don't want to see them happening in Dunedin city. Not now or ever.
