Sign up to oppose any potential redevelopment of the Bolsover District Council's offices at Sherwood Lodge, presently being earmarked as a site for a large chain Supermarket.
Not only will any development see the beautiful and historic gardens/grounds of Sherwood Lodge either vanish or suffer change, the ancient earthworks at the rear (Dykes Field) could also suffer in its appearance due to road changes, car park(s) and structures being added.
Certain bodies claim the redevelopment could 'boost Bolsover's economy'....after speaking with residents, shop keepers and small businesses in other small towns/villages in our proximity that have had a large supermarket dumped on their doorstep, there is little evidence of economic growth, in fact, quite the opposite as many local businesses have suffered as a direct consequence.
Furthermore, what will be the impact on traffic to and fro any supermarket chain?
To summarise, do we really want Sherwood Lodge to suffer develpment? Do we really wish to see the ancient earthworks being surrounded by concrete & tarmac, where else in England would they develop a supermarket right next to a historical site? Do you see a Tescos outside of Stonehenge or a huge car park at the side of The White Horse at the Vale of White Horse?
Do we really want our children leaving school at an already congested rush hour of traffic only to see further traffic generated by a town centre supermarket?
