Many off-leash parks are already in existence in the Southeast, while Birmingham remains one of the last large cities to deny recreational space for dogs and their owners. Just as other tax payers enjoy public swimming pools, jogging trails, golf courses, and playgrounds, dog owners need a place to exercise and enjoy their pets in an off leash environment. With so many dog owners in the Birmingham area, our local leaders and politicians need to step up to the plate and create a pilot program for the city with the first off leash dog park dedicated at Rhodes park.
