Online Voting

Online voting has been controversial since its' inception. Security issues are the prevailing concern that has prevented this form of voting to date. Under the current voting structure the highest recorded turnout for a presidential election was 68 percent of the voting population. This leaves 32 percent of the population that did not participate, which is more than enough to change the outcome of every election since our country's origin.

Our country was founded by the people for the people, which is all the people. Our current voting system is not reasonably allowing all those that have the right to vote the availability to do so. An internet voting system, if secure, would allow those who are unable to physically go to a voting station a means to exercise their right to vote. The establishment of an online voting system would eliminate the necessity of absentee ballots and provide a medium for our armed forces over seas to exercise their right to vote regardless of where they may be serving our country.

There is no reason that such a system cannot be developed if this great country set their mind to it. We can do online banking, product purchasing, and even go to school online! We have all ready begun to use computer technology in a voting setting in many states instead of the punch card paper ballots.

The only remaining step is to determine how we validate the individual as authentic and then transfer their selections to a central location. Such a format would speed up the process and allow for all individuals that have the right to vote a means to do so.

It is time once again for us to unite in a cause that is in the best interest of the people. I challenge everyone who is in agreement with taking this next technological step to band together by signing this petition to be sent to our congressional leaders challenging them to move forward with establishing this medium so all can exercise their inalienable right to vote!
