OWU 04/05 Winter Housing Proposal Critique

We, the undersigned, do hereby protest the Ohio Wesleyan Winter Break Housing Proposal for the 2004/2005 school year.
We disapprove of (1) the serious inconvenience of the late release date of this proposal, (2) the increase in vacation housing charges from last year's costs, (3) the displacement of students from their regular housing assignments, (4) the policy of requiring students to make their own arrangements with current resident(s) of Bashford Hall or the I-House--to assume residence in that otherwise occupied room, and (5) the plan to house students in the wholly unacceptable Bashford lounge.
We request that the university reinstate the housing privileges afforded to students during the 2003/2004 winter break.

I strongly feel the students don't deserve this. First of all, they are in a situation where they are not in a position to go home for the holiday/festive season. On top of that you propose that they live like cattle?

I stayed here over 1 winter break. It is anyways depressing to be on campus over christmas b/c theres hardly anyone around. Making students live in places like Bashford lounge is completely unacceptable, and the way res-life is dealing with how to put up

While I agree that the university is in a cash-strapped position and we need to find means to save costs, we should also remember that we are looking for ways to increase freshmen retention rates. I firmly believe that this policy will lead to discontent

Being an International Student, I really dont have anywhere to go for the break. Not only do I have to pay extra to stay here, I will be forced to live in a student lounge for three cold weeks of winter? That is just insane!
