Pacific Hwy WC2IR - No Eastern Route
Sign Now
We citizens of NSW are concerned by the proposed re-alignment and upgrade of the Pacific Highway between Wells Crossing and Iluka Rd.
-- According to the RTA's own studies, a Green or Red route would attract only 35\% of traffic and the Orange existing highway route would result in half the motor vehicle accident death rate of the Green or Red routes.
-- The last viable population of Eastern Coastal Emus is threatened with destruction by the Green, Red and Purple options through the east of the study area. Methods of mitigating the threat to the emus are unknown, untried, uncosted and an unacceptable risk. The Emus are iconic of the 80 other Threatened Species which will be affected by these routes.
--Following the existing highway route, or using the Summerland Way corridor will avoid damaging these valuable undeveloped areas.
-- During times of flood, the Summerland Way and New England Highway are available as alternate routes rather than the extremely costly raising of the new highway 2-3m along the floodplain on the Orange route.
We ask you to reject the eastern route options and consider the alternatives.
