1) You have appreciated his contribution to one of the greatest games of our time
2) You demand both his and Terry Butcher's return for future sequels
He was cruelly omitted for Pro Evolution Soccer 2 in favour of Peter "I tell a lie, he's missed!" Brackely. I feel this is a backwards step for the series as Chris James has quickly become a name synomous with the Pro Evo series. Where Konami's licensing deal failed to secure the real names of certain players, Chris James excelled, pronouncing names like "Ravoldi!" and "Ramage!" with such enthusiasm, you couldn't help but admire his broadcasting skills.
We laughed with him. We cried with him. When we lost games in Master League, he was there to console us. When we scored an amazing goal, he would wait a few seconds, so as not to ruin the glorious moment, before shouting "It's a goal!". He couldn't pronounce Burchet properly, he called the football crowd an audience and was constantly reminding us that the sun is beating down but the wind is shooting through the stadium. He even told us what colour socks the team attacking from the left of the screen wore. He is, in short, a cultural icon for the Pro Evo series and a computer game legend.
Also gone is his side-kick Terry Butcher, to make way for Trevor Brooking. Terry Butcher provided intricate and detailed match analysis, often pointing out that teams needed more variety in their attacking play or that the match could have gone either way. Chris James would often have to tell Terry what was happening on the pitch ("No, just wide Terry!") providing more humour that is sorely lacking in the current version.
Chris James and Terry Butcher may be gone but they will live on in our hearts. Together, we can bring them back to their rightful place.
