The number of applications for Italian has remained stable during the past few years and has significantly gone up for the academic year 2005-06.
The number of applications for Italian counts for 21.2\% of the total applications in Modern Languages, which means nearly a quarter.
If we look at the Three Language programmes, applications for combinations including Italian count for 69\% of the total number of applications.
We the undersigned recognise that the University of Wales, Bangor, is suffering some financial difficulty but believe that the closure of the Italian Department would be detrimental to the University and to its students. It is our belief that the University should look for other ways in which to save money so that the future of this Department can be ensured.
