Dear Parents,

I know you have all seen the letter and if you believe in this topic what we are asking is that you sign the attached petition.

We as parents are the only ones who can make a difference for our children.

Thank you,

Michelle Abbott

My name is Michelle Abbott and I am a parent of a McKee Elementary 3rd grader. Have you been as disappointed as I have been with the increase in the number of students in your childs classroom? We have several classes with more than 23 to 26 students per class. The quality of our childrens education has and will continue to suffer due to this situation. Elementary school is the foundation of their learning experience. At this age level, they still require more attention and that is the least they deserve. If we do not voice our disapproval this trend will continue. It is not fair to our children to have the district cutting expenses by cutting the number of classroom teachers. In the past, when this issue arose, the district put a Band-Aid on the situation by moving a teacher from one of our other elementary schools. Therefore one school got another teacher and the other school lost a teacher and increased their classroom size. We, as a district, need to stand together and let the school board know how concerned we are.

I am urging each and every one of you to attend the school board meeting on June 17, 2009 at 7:30 pm at Donaldson Elementary School. This topic is not on the agenda for June but we will speak at the open forum at the end of the meeting. When the topic has been brought up in the past the Board has always asked where all of the angry parents are because no one was there. We all need to come together and voice our concerns and desires to change this policy.

Our hope is to get enough parents at the meeting so that eyebrows are raised. If that happens maybe we will be put on the agenda for Julys school board meeting and we can really voice our opinion.

You must realize how important this is. If you care about your childs education this is the one bandwagon you should jump on. I know everyone has very busy schedules; myself included, but please show your support by giving us an hour or two of your time. Bring the kids if you dont have a sitter, its better to have both parents there since we are looking for a large turnout.

If you dont support us with your presence at the meeting, your silence gives the board permission to further weaken our childrens educational experience.

I hope to see all of you at the school board meeting, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 7:30 pm at Donaldson Elementary School.

Respectfully,

Michelle Abbott

50. Sandi M | Our class sizes at Donaldson have been good so far. As a teacher (in another district) I do strongly believe that the size of the classes directly impacts the education each individual child receives. Please take a serious look at this issue.
