Petition for Transparency

Dear Negotiating Administrators,

We write you to express our desire to be part of the current discussion surrounding the demands of our fellow students, some of whom who are hunger striking. First and foremost, we would like to express our concern for the hunger strikers, and implore you to be speedy and considerate of them in your approach to this situation.

That said, we would like to voice our outrage that there is little transparency in this current process. We feel that all students should be allowed to participate in a discussion that affects them so directly, especially at a university that professes to protect and support free speech, open debate, and an uninhibited exchange of ideas. We, too, believe in those ideals and wish to be heard in these tumultuous times with change on the horizon. We are not a student group, we are a group of students, and it is this subtle linguistic difference that could keep us out of the negotiating process. As there are clearly more than ten of us, we ask that you allow your current negotiations, and future negotiations, to be open and transparent, as such a process would reflect one of the four major demands for which the students are hunger striking. It is important that we hear your thoughts from you directly, and dont have them diffused to us through various other sources. We want to talk with you. Will you talk with us?
