Petition in Support of Safety and Rerouting
Heavy Haul Truck Traffic on Dewdney Avenue
To the Honourable Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in legislature assembled:
The petition of the undersigned citizens of the Province of Saskatchewan humbly showeth:
That Dewdney Avenue west of the city center is a main artery for families’ access to residences, schools, activities and work;
That an influx of heavy haul traffic has impeded families’ and users utilization of Dewdney Avenue;
That this increased heavy haul traffic poses a direct threat to the safety of families, residents, and users of Dewdney Avenue;
That this influx of heavy haul traffic has also caused an unacceptable disturbance to peace of mind and well-being of residents and families;
That heavy haul traffic is damaging infrastructure and impacts local tourism including access to the RCMP Depot and Heritage Centre and Government House;
That this traffic is largely due to the GTH, as such, the province has a direct responsibility to fund the actions necessary to address this unacceptable issue;
That despite the repeated calls for action and constructive solutions from community members the response from the Sask Party government has been inadequate and has failed to address the issues caused by the influx of heavy haul traffic; and,
That the current heavy haul traffic on Dewdney Avenue is unacceptable, unsafe and requires immediate interim actions and provincial support.
Wherefore your petitioners humbly pray that your Honourable Legislative Assembly call on the provincial government to immediately take action as it relates to the unacceptable danger, disturbance and infrastructure damage caused by the heavy haul traffic on Dewdney Avenue, west of the city center, to ensure the safety and well-being of communities, families, residents and users, and that those actions and plans should: include rerouting the heavy-haul traffic, receive provincial funding, and be developed through consultation with the City of Regina, communities and residents.
And, as in duty bound, your petitioners will ever pray.
