In the wake of the society-altering events of September 11, 2001,
we the undersigned express our commitment to healing the centuries-long rift between the descendants of Ishmael and Isaac.
we honor our common patriarch, Abraham, and our common Lord, G_d/Allah. Our differences are not so strong that we cannot find mutual points of agreement for peaceful coexistence on this earth.
we view each other as having particular strengths that our common Lord has given us to be of benefit to one another. We acknowledge that each of us has weaknesses within ourselves, and we are grateful that our brothers are willing to overlook our weaknesses, as we are willing to overlook theirs.
we believe that in a spirit of humility and recognition of our equal worth that no differences are too great to be reconciled, and that such reconciliation will produce a unity stronger than the rift that has so been painful to bear.
we look forward with hopeful anticipation that eventually enough of mankind will embrace this principle so as to be able to turn away more horrible and fatal conflicts.
