To our respected council,
As concerned members of the community, we recognize and appreciate councils effort and the time spent on our behalf in updating our bylaws to stay current with the will of the community in addressing many complicated issues surrounding animal control. We also appreciate the input from the many others who have given input on the current state of the proposed draft. Using the current draft as an outline combined with verbal statements during our council meetings, we feel council has the right idea of balance between public safety, accountability and personal freedom.
However, there are areas of the bylaw that do not reflect the sentiment of council, as verbally stated during council meetings. Furthermore this bylaw covers so many topics, that including members of the community who have in depth understanding of the many areas this bylaw governs would be of great value in producing a bylaw that is proactive in addressing safety concerns within the community, well not allowing personal rights and freedoms to be unreasonably infringed.
We hereby request council to end any further debate or progress on this bylaw until such time that it is returned to council, having been reviewed and revised by a committee of interested volunteers from the community. The committee, being 10 to 12 self nominated individuals, with an interest in the issue at hand, holding the purpose of public safety, regard for property and the communities best interest as guiding principles.
This act would allow council to concentrate on other pressing matters, save valuable tax dollars and give the community direct input on how we as residents would like the issue of animal control addressed within our community.
