We as a community are asking for, and wish to work with the council towards, achieving the following goals:
- A better and more efficiently maintained playground. Including better fencing and lighting to protect it from regular vandalism when closed
- Improvements towards much safer car-parking and easier access to the playground
- Traffic calming measures on the very busy road outside the playground
- Expand towards a bigger, better and more adequate playground with greater variety of play equipment fit to serve the high population of children of all ages in Ashbourne
- Work towards developing the area surrounding the playground as a family park
- River surrounding the playground and green area made safer, with aesthetic fencing.
And Long term efforts:
- Harness the potential of the River Walk through the whole of Ashbourne - allowing families & cyclists to enjoy recreational activities away from the town's busy roads
- Improve facilities for older children and teenagers such as skate park/bmx track, which would in turn provide a more appropriate meeting space
- More Youth Projects to be put in place to help deter teens away from vandalising our one children's amenity such as, age related events, more sports & arts programmes.
In summary - ask Meath CoCo to recognise the tiny inadequate slice of public space given to the needs of children and young people in our large town and please do more to address this.
