PETITION FOR ACTION
During the Annual Meeting of the Point Clark Beach Association on August 12th 2006, the membership attendees requested that a Petition be circulated to draw support for the restoration of the Point Clark lakeshore, specifically, the improvement of water quality and beach conditions from Amberley Road to Pine River.

The sludge and foul odour at the waters edge have made beach areas unfit and unsafe for residents and tourists. A number of contributing factors have been identified: the current low lake level, the presence of man-made jetties, the invasion of the plant Common Reed, the rise in natural e. coli due to increased bird habitat/population, improperly maintained septic systems, manure and fertilizer run-off.

We, the undersigned, request that ecological studies be initiated immediately to provide the necessary data to determine long-term solutions to the pollution problem. These may or may not include the removal of rock jetties, mandatory septic inspections, containment of fertilizer and manure and the timely cutting and disposal of the Common Reed plant. All solutions will require the co-operation of permanent and seasonal residents, local farmers as well as all levels of government.
