Dear President Zeis,
As students of Saint Francis University, we feel that the airing of MTV U on our campus is highly inappropriate. Not only is this channel offensive, it is also forced upon students who do not want to view it. Students wishing to take advantage of communal campus facilities are often forced to view music videos by artists such as Ja Rule, Marilyn Manson, and Snoop Dogg. Televisions located in Torvian, JFK, and Frankie's broadcast MTV to the entire campus community as well as to any visitors to our school. As a Catholic University, MTV U projects a false image of the atmosphere on campus. The atmosphere should be one of education and faith. Unfortunately, MTV depicts an atmosphere of drinking, partying, and sexual promiscuity.
MTV U is:
Anti-Intellectual
Degrading to Women
Against our Mission Statement
We feel that due to these arguments, MTV U should be removed from our campus. In replacement for this provocative channel, there are several options we would suggest:
ESPN
CNN Headline News
MSNBC
TBS
These channels represent non-offensive alternatives that would allow our students to relax and enjoy the use of campus facilities in an atmosphere of education and respect. We students request the removal of MTV U from our campus in order to provide a richer campus community.
Thank you for you considerations.
