We, the undersigned, oppose any Federal Law or Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as a contract between one man and one woman, thus despoiling documents intended to ensure equality under the law with blatant discriminatory language.
We, the undersigned, respectfully argue that the Defense of Marriage Act is unjust and unjustifiable.
We, the undersigned, respectfully argue that same-sex marriages should be given the rights and responsibilities equal to those of other marriages neither more nor less, but equal.
We, the undersigned, respectfully argue that the Defense of Marriage Act violates the equal protection under the law principles embodied by the Constitution of the United States of America.
We, the undersigned, respectfully argue that the Defense of Marriage Act is in violation of Article IV of the Constitution as it pertains to interstate relations.
We, the undersigned, respectfully argue that the Defense of Marriage Act is a contravention of the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the United States Constitution, Section 1 of the Article IV, which states that "Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State...."
We, the undersigned, respectfully ask you to consider that the concept of marriage (a contract between two persons having reached the age of consent) has continuously evolved throughout the course of history. For instance, in the recent past, people having different religious or ethnic backgrounds were not allowed to marry in most or all States.
We, the undersigned, are Americans of all colors, of all ethnicities, of all religions, of all classes, of all ages, and of all sexual orientations and we thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
