Tom Friedman is a pollyanna brown-noser who, likeDavid Brooks, has a penchant for warping his perception of reality to fit neatlyinto preconceived catchphrases. He's Joe Lieberman without the built-in voting base.
Maureen Dowd is an embarassing windbag. She is not undeservedly referred to as the Left's Ann Coulter. You see that? She's so bad that a doppelganger manufactured to mirror her in every way has taken her slot in the public consciousness.
And now I have to pay $50 to read them twice a week?
No.
The solution: replace them with Mikhail Gorbachev and BarbaraEhrenreich. Two outstanding writers (what does that say to you,Maureen, that Mikhail Gorbachev translated to English is more eloquentthan you have ever been with your native language?), two profoundthinkers, and two emminently qualified individuals. Featuring moreop-ed writers with such substantial real-world credentials can onlyserve to restore the respect that the New York Times once so rightlydeserved. We would gladly pay $50, even $100 to read their thoughtson the news of the day. But the current crop leaves much to bedesired.
