Asterisk PBX is a completed PBX solution, offering a complete set of built-in features, as well a powerful development API. Leveraging these tools, users can create systems to handle anything from a small office PBX to an enterprise call center or hosted IVR application. Asterisk and its development practices have gained significant respect in the development and telephony industry for its respect of standards and extreme flexibility.

One of the most powerful aspects of Asterisk is the IAX (Inter-Asterisk eXchange) protocol. IAX is a lightweight protocol, focused on providing the ideal voice transport, overcoming many obstacles of previous standards. IAX is ideal for service providers, given its ability to work in nearly any firewalled and natted scenario. Its also excellent for road warriors, remote offices and even internal switch to switch communications. With its enhanced trunking abilities, it can significantly reduce wan traffic, allowing offices to leverage voice over ip in many scenarios previously impossible.

IAX is a very mature protocol, currently being used in a wide variety of scenarios with great success. However, in order to leverage this powerful protocol at the user level, weve reached the point where an IAX-compatible desktop handset is needed.

We respectfully request your serious consideration of enhancing your current product line to support IAX. With a strong and rapidly growing userbase, we believe youll find community and provider support for such a product will be overwhelming.
