Five friends formed a World of Warcraft guild called 'Thundering Pantload' some nine months ago. We've been happily playing together consistently since then.
Abruptly, and without explanation, a GM (GM-Tainshall) forced us to change the guild name since it violated guild naming policy as established in the World of Warcraft terms of use.
The name DOES constitute a minor naming policy violation, and Blizzard is within their rights to require a change. Strangely, however, there are many other guilds on our server (Wildhammer) and many other players whose names violate naming policy to a much larger degree. Nothing has been done or is being done about those names.
Our guild has grown very attached to our name as part of our online identity and our online personae. Had the name been changed shortly after we'd formed it---we wouldn't have cared much. After playing together for more than nine months, the belated enforcement of their rule came as a shock, and also was a very disheartening turn of events.
I was instructed by the GM to offer 5 alternatives for them to pick through and re-assign the guild name. They rejected all five. When I offered five more, they rejected all five of those. After sending another five (for a total of 15) I've been ignored.
We like World of Warcraft. We like our guild. We have friends who know us and know our guild. Having the name reset to and walking around under that moniker is frustrating to me (Gah) as guild leader.
Please help us implore the Wildhammer GM populace to change our name back to . And if they absolutely won't do that, change it to SOMETHING for us.
If you sign this petition, perhaps Blizzard's GM's will see the support we have and the friendships we've forged under this guild name and see fit to restore it.
