Reverse the decision to switch off 80% of Warwickshire CC's street lights overnight

From the beginning of 2013, the County Council has put in place a scheme to switch off the majority of Rugby's streetlights for 5 hours every night. This is designed to save money, although the initial cost to set up was over £1.5 million and will take years to be recouped.
WCC have also claimed that this will reduce emissions. However, they rejected alternatives that would be more environmentally friendly, such as dimming or using LED lights.
Most of the affected areas are residential roads, and since the Switch Off there have been many concerns raised by people over fear of crime and safety. During recent snowy weather, the police requested that the lights be kept on because of the dangers. We believe that even in normal weather, the darkened streets will be less safe for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. There are many shift workers in the town who will be feeling at greater risk as a result.
We the undersigned request that Warwickshire County Council switch the streetlights back on in Rugby
