Whereas May 28th is the International Day of Action for Womens Health and women around the globe are organizing around the theme - Health Sector Reforms: Hazardous to Womens Health;

Whereas the womens working group of the BC Health Coalition is hosting the Canadian event with an interactive forum for women - Reproductive Rights: Its our Choice;

Whereas the women of BC, along with all British Columbians, value our public health care system;

Whereas we have concerns about recent and significant health policy shifts and service delivery changes in BC and their effects on women;

Whereas we are concerned that women in this province are not receiving quality and appropriate health care;

Whereas womens access to health care is restricted as hospitals close or are downgraded and health services are decreased, de-listed and privatized forcing many women to travel even further than they do now to have a baby or terminate a pregnancy;

And whereas the negative impact of governments health care cuts and restructuring on womens lives has been immediate and unless corrected, will continue to be felt for years to come;

Therefore, we request that the provincial government create and allocate appropriate funding for a Reproductive Rights Fund for the women of BC. The purpose of this fund is to ensure that all women across BC have equal access to a full range of reproductive services.
