Safer Highway's For Florida

We the people of the state of Florida, herby demand that the government of the people of Florida make it a felony to Drive Under the Influence of Alcohol or any other mind-altering substance or illegal drug, narcotic or product. We demand that the minimum sentence for persons convicted of Driving under the Influence be no less than five years of consecutive jail time without the possibility of parole before five years, and in the cases of damage to a vehicle, no less than seven years of consecutive jail time and no possibility of parole before seven years. In the event of an injury, we the people demand that the person[s] convicted of Driving under the Influence that results in the injury of another person, that the sentence imposed shall be no less than ten years of consecutive jail time without the possibility of parole. We demand that people who drink and drive, putting everyone's life at risk, be removed from the streets and severe consequences be enforced with their actions.

On August 20, 2006 my girlfriends life, as well as my own, were almost ended instantly when a drunk driver was driving on the wrong side of the road. I slammed on the breaks and barely swerved in behind a semi on the lane next to me. The drunk driver side swiped my vehicle and continued driving. The State Trooper told me that the driver of the vehicle would more likely than not be given any punishment or any jail time. Another four inches and we would've been killed. I urge you to sign the below petition to make sure that those who choose a decision that could cost someone their life and/or change it forever not go unpunished.
