The current budget proposal to reduce the hours of the Aurora Hills Library by 50\%, from six days a week to three for FY 2010 is not acceptable. We, the undersigned, respectfully ask that you reconsider this action which will cause significant harm to our community.

The Aurora Hills Library is an important part of southeast Arlington. To reduce our librarys operations to three days per week would deny library access to thousands of Arlingtonians, especially children, senior citizens and working adults. The current economic crisis has affected everyone and during this time we are relying on our library more than ever.

County data show that operating the Aurora Hills Library just three days per week will save very little relative to the loss in value our community will endure. We, as a community, are not blind to the fact that these are difficult economic times that require sacrifices. However, depriving our community of its library is neither equitable, nor acceptable.

Please, keep the Aurora Hills Library open. This isnt just a branch library; this is the HEART of our community. We, taxpaying residents of Arlington County, support the Aurora Hills Library and as noted by our signatures in support of this petition, reject the proposal to make our library unavailable four days per week.
