Halifax Regional Council and Staff have entered into an agreement with Banc Developments for the sale of 180 acres of Public Lands in the Bayers Lake Business Park. The negotiations are being held in secret. The Public will not know the details until the negotiations and sale are complete.
There are a tonne of opportunities for development in the Halifax area that are being stalled, publicly debated and politically positioned. The need for continued development and economic growth in Halifax is not being debated, it's obvious. However it would seem to reason that a dual objective of city council would also be to promote recreational activity, green space and park development. So, why develop in the Bayers lake recreational trail area, effectively cutting off access to an existing hiking/biking mecca when there are development opportunities in other areas being delayed, stalled, postponed and red taped into extinction? Save and encourage recreational areas and build in commercially viable zones. It seems basic and the right long term approach for our region.
