Newcastle City Council are planning to close City Pool in March 2013. There are many people, including clubs that use th
e facilities at City Pool, including City of Newcastle Amateur Swimming Club. The Club is home to over 200 swimmers, varying in age and ability and has produced hundreds of great swimmers over the years including 3 Olympians and a whole host of swimmers who have represented the club nationally and Great Britain internationally. If we allow the council to close this grade 11 listed building to the public and the club, not only will the pool remain empty and unused, it will almost certainly mean the end of CoNasc as we know it, as there are very limited alternative facilities that could house such a large club. The club is home to hundreds of young children, this closure may mean they are no longer able to participate or compete in the sport they are so passionate about. Swimming is a huge commitment for both the children and the parents, many of whom train twice daily at this facility. The prospect of the next generation of Olympic hopefuls having their fate sealed by a decision that was announced without consultation is unthinkable. Is this what Newcastle wants as it's Olympic legacy?
Please help in any way that you are able to save our pool and our club.
