Dear Supervisor Diane Jacobs,
I am writing you to tell you how important the future of the El Cajon MX park is to me, and ask that you agree to extend the lease for the track, at least until such time as another suitable location can be found. Here are the benefits to keeping the track open:
- El Cajon MX park is the only facility of its kind in San Diego County. Without this facility, we simply have no other comparable place to enjoy the great outdoors pursuing our favorite recreational activity.
- Thousands of families visit the track each year
- Riding off-road vehicles provides children with a constructive, family oriented activity, and keeps them off drugs and away from negative influences
- The County General Plan allows for this type of facility, and despite this, San Diego County has failed to provide a suitable place for me to recreate on off-road vehicles. Indeed, San Diego County has failed to implement the Off Highway Vehicle section of the Recreation Element of the San Diego County General Plan
- In these hard financial times, it simply makes no sense to close down the track prematurely and forego important tax revenues that this facility generates for the county
- Local business owners in San Diego County depend heavily on off-roaders for their financial well-being. There are over 4 million registered off-highway vehicles in California, contributing over 10 billion dollars annually to the state economy.
Supervisor Jacob, I implore you to extend the lease with the owner of the El Cajon MX track, and we are counting on you to address the needs of the thousands of off-road recreationists in San Diego County.
