HOUGHTON FOREST
(a short walk from the Whiteways car park at the top of Bury Hill)
IS A TREASURED PART OF THE SOUTH DOWNS
Visitors come from far and wide to experience
its tranquility, its grassy walks through the trees, and its birdsong
YET
DEVELOPERS WANT TO SPREAD 75 'HOLIDAY CABINS'
(some as big as a house) over the prettiest, quietest, part of it all.
Although they (Forest Holidays and their backer Lloyds Bank) claim that the cabins are ecologically friendly and will be 'inserted sensitively among the trees'
THE ACCESS ROADS TO EACH CABIN,
A CENTRAL SHOP AND ADMIN BUILDING,
AND THE ACCOMPANYING TRAFFIC TO AND FRO FOR OVER 220 PEOPLE ON SITE
AND PROVISION FOR 150 CARS AND WITH TWO HANDOVER DAYS EACH WEEK THAT’S UP TO 600 CARS COMING IN AND OUT EVERY WEEK
IT WILL DESTROY THE QUALITIES THAT VISITORS, WALKERS, CYCLISTS, AND RIDERS COME TO ENJOY.
