It was one of the game's coolest looking features, which intrigued immediately during first previews. For reasons unknown it was replaced by multi-eyed cartoonish mini creatures, as seen in more recent videos :(
While making the game more suitable for younger children, it does detract A LOT from the game's immersive feel.
