What EAD has done for the City:
Successfully brought over $25 million in State and federal grant funds into the City for environmental projects.
Planted over 20,000 trees along streets, in city parks, and at public schools
Leads the Citys effort to switch its automotive fleet to alternative fuel vehicles.
Purchased 100 bicycles for the Citys police bicycle patrols and plans to purchase another 40 in the near future.
Leveraged $10.2 million in City funds to generate $77.6 million in Federal grants and loans for brownfields projects, transforming blighted lots to community assets.
Created over 125 school gardens with plans for an additional 30 this year.
Provided direct technical assistance to thousands of small businesses, enhancing pollution prevention throughout the City.
EADs Local Enforcement Agency conducts hundreds of inspections annually at solid waste transfer stations and landfills to protect public health and the environment.
Provides environmental education and outreach to thousands of residents each year through community events, newsletters and other publications, website, and general public and business hotlines.
The Mayors Budget Team has recommended the elimination of the Environmental Affairs Department. However, the Environmental Affairs Department is a valuable asset for the City and, even in difficult budget times, the environment remains a high priority for everyone that lives and breathes in the City of Los Angeles. Please do not leave the City without this important resource and effective voice for environmental protection.
Sincerely,
