We believe that funding should not be cut to the Monroe County Library System (MCLS). The MCLS is an invaluable resource to the community that provides a way for the public to expand their knowledge and even continue their education. It provides the public with a free gateway to the rest of the world and depends on revenue from local governments in order to keep its service excellent, maintain its basic infrastructure, and to keep its doors open. Funding to the MCLS should not be cut because it would negatively impact the community by forcing the MCLS to lay off workers hampering its ability to serve the public, and would drain the local economy by having former employees dependent on unemployment funds which creates an additional cost to the government and taxpayers.
