The City of Courtenay should NOT SELL a valuable community park and sports field to VIHA for the site of a new hospital located next to North Island College.
Mission Road Park is a 2 acre city owned property that was developed by the City of Courtenay to be used as a sports field. It is zoned "Parks and Recreation" and is designated as a community park in the Official Community Plan. This is very popular sports field and baseball diamond located next to Queneesh School, which has an enrolment of 400 children grades K - 7.
The City of Courtenay wants to amend its Official Community Plan and rezone this park in order to sell it to VIHA. On November 27, 2012, at 7pm City Council will be hosting a Public Hearing at the Florence Filberg Centre in downtown Courtenay. Residents of the Comox Valley are encouraged to come and express their opposition to the sale of this piece of valuable park land.
