We, the undersigned, call on you to commence broadcasting of the Australia Network television channel.
Australia Network is Australias international channel. If offers a rich and diverse range of programming including news, sports, lifestyle, learning and childrens programs.
This is an extremely popular channel in the Asia-Pacific as it draws on some of the best programming from Australia. For many people ABC news and current affairs represent a high-quality regional news service. Sports such as the Super 14 Rugby and NRL are popular with an international audience, AFL football has a popular following in Malaysia (there is even a local AFL team in Kuala Lumpur). From Home and Away, The Great Outdoors and Heres Humphrey the wide range of programs appeals to many demographics. It is important to note that Australia Network is directed at an Asia-Pacific audience. In fact many schools in remote areas use the channels comprehensive educational programming to teach English.
We understand Astro has held the rights to broadcast Australia Network for several years. With the successful launch of MEASAT-3 the only delay in broadcasting Australia Network is making it a priority.
