Speed Aid into Myanmar

As you are aware, Nargis Cyclone hit the Myanmar delta region on May 3, 2008.
The Red Cross currently estimates the death toll at 128,000, with thousands more missing. An estimated 2.5 million people have been declared in need by the UN. That is an unfathomable number, and proper relief efforts must be pursued to ameliorate the situation.
We applaud the Senate's work to promote relief through the passage of Senate Resolution 554 regarding the opinion of the Senate on humanitarian efforts in the Myanmar region.
Significant aid, some $43.7 million worldwide, has been put forth for the relief effort, but attempts to move aid into Myanmar have been largely stymied by the military regime in power.
We wholeheartedly endorse any and all action undertaken by the Senate to further expedite the aid process in Myanmar by any peaceful means possible.
As your constituents, we ask that you advocate such legislation in the Senate.
