St Alban's R/C Primary School- Safety of the Walking Route to School

As parents or guardians of children at St Alban's School, one of our important roles is to ensure their safety at all times. Many of us are very concerned about the pavement that we use running from the Mormon Church Car Park at the top of Priory Lane, down to Keats Drive and the School entrance. At stages it is very narrow. When a parent walks to school with a pram and a child, the oncoming pedestrians are forced to walk into the road to pass by. At school times the traffic is very busy and this therefore is exceptionally dangerous. Additionally in the winter or wet weather, the pavement is very slippery and this is an additional hazard. We believe something needs to be done before an accident happens. The purpose of this petition is to get as many supporters as possible so that we can lobby the local counsellor and council to make some improvements to this route. We believe there are two possible options: 1-To widen the current pavement by removing the bank of earth and trees. 2-To create a new path from the top of Victoria Road, just behind the post box directly down into the School Playing fields, thus removing the children from the road completely. The land is council owned and this option has been investigated before, without any success. Please, support this on-line petition and let's see if we can make a difference to our children's lives!
