CITIZENS PETITION

Our nation recently celebrated her 62nd year of freedom. We have achieved many a milestone and glories in these independent years, which we are truly proud of; sadly the situation described herein is a blot on the state-of-affairs and speaks volumes for the Equality and Rights entitled to Ordinary citizens.

In the heart of our metropolitan city which is blessed with round-the-clock electricity, three senior citizens, two of whom are widows, along with their families have had to live without electricity and the water taps of their homes being bone dry since 21st July 2009.
The simple reason for this is that they are common law abiding tenants of a powerful Builder cum Tobacco Exporter who, has no respect for leave aside ethics and morals but even the law of the land and is attempting to deny them their legal rights under DC 33(7).

What is indeed outrageous, is not that a human being can stoop to such low levels, but the fact that our governing fathers along with the government machinery and agencies allow themselves to be a pawn in the hands of this unscrupulous builder, remain mere mute spectators and succumb to his unlawful high-handedness. Herewith is an article that appeared in the Mumbai Mirror dated 12.08.09 which explains the oppression and denial of essential amenities by this greedy developer with the treacherous intention of vacating these last remaining tenants without promising to reaccomodate them in the newly constructed building.

We the undersigned strongly condemn these acts of grave mischief and harassment adopted by any such builder and extend our support to the victimized tenants of
Kasar-e-Ayesha building at Mumbai Central.
We are further anguished to see the ineffectiveness and disability of the Mumbai Police,
B.E.S.T., MHADA and our Elected Representatives to efficiently prevent such blatant abuse of the rights of our fellow Mumbaikars simply because they are not celebrated public figures and in allowing the responsible law breakers to go scot-free.
