Stop Blasting in DeKalb County

RE: OLD CASTLE, Inc. SPECIAL LAND USE LAND PERMIT
DeKALB COUNTY, DISTRICT 5

WE ARE SIGNING OUR NAMES to this petition as means to address the concerns of the residents of this community addressed by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. We would like to peacefully co-exist with Old Castle, Inc. as a business that would impact our community and offer the following conditions as a sole means to work and live together in close proximity of quarry operations and existing/new residential.

WE ASK THAT THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (BOC) defer their decisions to approve this Special Land Use Permit in order to review and pray that they approve these conditions as a compromise in good faith. We pray that the BOC set conditions and enforce conditions to protect the health, safety and welfare of the existing residents as well as the proposed thousands of new residents that find DeKalb County as their new home. We pray that the BOC set the conditions and enforce the conditions that would regulate and control the Old Castle, Inc. from disturbing the peace and lifestyle of residents in this area.

WE WOULD ASK THAT THE BOC consider the following conditions in this Special Land Use Permit as the beginning of the end of the disturbances that we residents endure and continue to endure since the re-activation of the use of Explosives at the various quarry sites. We pray that the BOC start this process with setting conditions for Old Castle, Inc and find a method to enforce these conditions to other quarry operations that now create havoc to your constituents in DeKalb and our neighbors in Rockdale county.

WE WOULD ASK THAT THE DEKALB BOC review the following conditions as stipulations to the Special Land Use Permit as a means to begin the process of resolving the lifestyle, health, safety and welfare issues now in jeopardy from current operations and proposed operations.

1. Establish a perpetual moratorium on the use of explosives in any and all quarrying in DeKalb County. Specify and enforce all permits and land use of quarrying operations to hydraulic, drilling and expansion devices for extraction.
2. Prohibit and ENFORCE the use of Pleasant Hill Road by trucks over 30 feet in length and/or over 10 tons in weight.
3. Insure continual maintenance of Maddox Road right of ways from dust, debris and trash as a cost borne by all quarrying/dumping operations on Maddox Road.
4. Insure continual maintenance of County and State roadbeds and surfaces from truck damage in the vicinity of existing and proposed quarrying operations.
5. Insure the engineering and traffic control designs as necessary to provide the general public safe use of truck traffic volume in direct relationship to the increasing volume of residential and commerce traffic to Stone Crest Mall.
