A retrospective planning application is currently being considered by Carmarthenshire Council for an agricultural shed to be used as a dog breeding facility. The farm in question already runs a dog breeding (puppy farm) business from an old shed, but arbitrarily altered a new shed which was erected for storage and lambing to contain yet more breeding adults, thus bringing the total number of adult dogs to 180.
They state on their planning that there would be one full time worker (the husband) @ 40 hours per week and one part timer @20 hours per week if he/she wasn't involved in lambing. This would total 60 hours per week out of 168 hours.
If there were 180 adult dogs, and say 3/4 of these were breeding bitches (135) and they bred twice a year with, say, eight pups per litter, that would be a sum total of 2160 (o thousand, one hundred and sixty) puppies born every year - just from this farm alone.
Are we comfortable with this? How can 1 full time and 1 part time workers possible attend to the welfare of these poor dogs at all times, and how can they possible give the dogs proper daily exercise .
Please sign this petition to try to stop both this application and Dog Breeding Farms (Puppy Farms) from operating in the UK.
