Help Stop the Proposed Pit Bull Breed Ban
To Saskatoon City Council Members
WHEREAS
It is a known fact that aggressive dogs are found among any breed or crossbreed;
and
Breed specific legislation and breed bans are not effective solutions to the problem of dog attacks; and
The problem of dog attacks is best dealt with through a comprehensive program of education, training and legislation encouraging responsible ownership of all breeds; and
The public should be made aware of their option to pursue charges under the current Dangerous Animal Bylaw for any breed of dog that exhibits aggressive behaviour, regardless of the level of aggression exhibited by the animal (i.e. dog does not need to bite to be deemed dangerous, and the public can therefore prevent a bite by holding the owner of an aggressive dog accountable under the law);
WE the undersigned petition the Saskatoon City Council to refrain from enacting municipal animal control legislation that is breed-specific, and instead implement a comprehensive bite prevention strategy that encourages responsible ownership of all breeds.

Please don't punish responsible owners! I love my Staffordshire Bull Terrier and he has been neutered, socialized and is currently in competitive agility. These are great dogs for responsible owners.
