The Issue: Presently there is a move afoot to put a second Metro Detroit area bridge from Michigan to Canada. The Southern Corridor Options would place the bridge in the heart of Downriver. The community impact of any Southern Corridor Option is so overwhelmingly adverse we demand the Southern Corridor be excluded from further consideration. Some of those negative aspects are:
г The Southern Corridor will substantially reduce property values for the family neighborhoods within miles either side of the new bridge and its access roads. These communities are currently revenue sources for Wayne County and provide quality school systems. That community prosperity will forever be lost.
г The financial gain from business created by the new bridge will not restore community prosperity nor replace lost taxes.
г These safe, clean, quiet and neighborly family communities will be lost forever.
г The Southern Corridor has adverse impact on more communities than other Corridors because of the many miles of four lane roads to be built from the bridge to interstate highways I-275 and I-75.
г The Southern Corridor provides access only to north-south interstate highways: I-75 and I-275. Other Corridors provide access to east-west as well as north-south interstate highways.
